Im continuing the notify patching frenzy. This one gives a message sender and subject notification! Although it requires a rebuild of the whole evolution package.

You have to apply it in the mail folder of the extracted evolution 2.5.90 source.

Today I wrote a little patch for the Evolution s new-mail-notify plugin, that makes use of the notification-daemon. It sends a notify message to the daemon which then pops a nice information about new email.

Here s the patch:

To use it you have to:
0. Have installed a recent version of libnotify and notification-daemon (if youre using packaged versions make sure you also have the development packages)
1. Get a recent version of Evolution source code (tested with 2.5.90) from here
2. Unpack the source tarball
3. Copy the file notify.patch into the plugins/new-mail-notify folder of the source tree
4. In the plugins/new-mail-notify issue the following commands :
patch < notify.patch
./configure --prefix=/usr
make
and as root :
make install

5. Then launch evolution and enjoy :)
